Monday when I updated you all on my health and the baby's, I didn't put in there that I have low blood pressure because I didn't really think it was that big of a concern. I quickly discovered I was very wrong.
I've always had low blood pressure because I do not consume a lot of sodium rich foods, and I never add salt to anything. I think I am this way because I watched my grandpa Clarence be very careful about his sodium intake all my life.
Anyways, the midwife had mentioned that it's very low, but that is common for women who are pregnant. Yesterday, in the middle of first hour, my blood pressure dropped drastically. I got nauseous, extremely dizzy, saw white spots, turned ghostly white, was sweating like crazy and couldn't feel my fingers and toes. And the scary part was, it wouldn't go away. I finally made it home and frantically called Tony at work, which I've never even thought about doing before. He told me it sounds like low blood pressure, gave me some things to do and told me to call the the OB nurse line. The nurse at Mayo told me the same things. Tony was so sweet and called me every hour to check on me!
So, I loaded up on very salty foods, drank sugary soda, and gulped tons of water. By around 1pm I was finally feeling a little back to normal. Let's just say, my desk is full of salty snacky foods and I have sugary soda on hand at school just in case!
I'm sure you all don't want to hear about my personal health issues, but it was a huge event in my life yesterday, so I'm sharing it whether you like it or not! :)
oh, Man! What a bummer! I actually had the exact same problem during my pregnancies. I passed out at school during my class Christmas party! And, I won't tell you what I once did in the doctor's office... You can check my blog archive Dec. 2006 if you want to read the story.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that helped me is to not dress too warmly--always keep a short sleeved t-shirt on if you wear a sweater! Hang in there--and stand up slowly!!! :)
